VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE

We understand that many volunteer groups desire to make good use of their time here and would like to work Saturdays and sometimes even Sundays, but we ask our volunteer groups to please understand that Saturdays are often reserved to allow local, one day volunteers an opportunity to serve.   Additionally, our staff is here week in and week out, working diligently to make sure that your work site is running and that work sites are prepared for the next group of volunteers who come after you.   Therefore our standard work week for long term (week long) volunteer groups is Monday through Friday, and we are not open to work projects on Sundays.   While there is room for flexibility in regard to sign-in and sign-out times for the housing, most groups will arrive on Sunday afternoon or evening and depart on Friday evening or Saturday morning.   Please plan your visit accordingly.

PLEASE BE AWARE:

All volunteers please be aware that, as a volunteer organization, Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana and its partners do not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health or disability insurance in the event of injury or illness, and the volunteer should understand that the work does involve hazardous activities, including, but not limited to construction, loading and unloading, and transportation to and from the work sites.

 POLICY ON MINORS AS VOLUNTEERS

LARRI work teams may include youth with a minimum age of 16.

Volunteers age 16 through age 17 must have signed Parent or Legal Guardian permission submitted prior to arrival

Youth under the age of 16 are not permitted on the job site while work is in progress.

No one under the age of 18 is permitted to use any power equipment, work on a ladder, roof or scaffolding, or participate in any hazardous activity

HOUSING

Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana is in the rare, but fortunate position of being able to provide housing for most of our volunteers.   We currently have four homes which are set up to accommodate volunteer groups.   Each volunteer house has a kitchen and is equipped with basic kitchen equipment, dishware and utensils for your use.

We do not, however provide cleaning, laundry and maintenance services or sundry items (soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc.)   We ask that you plan to thoroughly clean the equipment and facilities before you depart in consideration of the next group that will be coming.   To date, we have not had to ask for a security deposit for use of the housing.   With your help in treating the properties respectfully, we hope to avoid the necessity of that inconvenience.   The Volunteer Coordination Department will provide you with a checklist of end-of-the-week duties.   Many groups will bring a "house keeper" or two with them to stay at  and attend to  the house throughout the week, while others choose to do the end-of-the-week cleaning duties as a group on Friday afternoon or evening before they leave.

Many volunteers  struggle with this, feeling compelled to "make better use of their time" working to restore people's homes rather than doing chores while they are here, but this is a part of what must be done for the overall program to run smoothly, and we very much appreciate your help in being good stewards of the facilities which have been made available, and in showing consideration for those who come after you.

Also be aware that:

Wi-Fi and Basic Cable are provided.

Bath mats and some towels are available, but we ask that you launder what you use so that they are clean for the next group.

Bunk beds with twin mattresses are provided, but you must bring your own bedding (sheets and blankets) and pillows.

If you don't find an open week that suits your group, please check back occasionally, as vacancies may change for various reasons.
