One year after unprecedented floods hit northwest Indiana, Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana is taking extra steps to reach out to homeowners with unmet needs in concentrated areas of devastation.

LARRI has partnered with Gary Neighborhood Services to better facilitate those outreach efforts in Gary. Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana works with homeowners who filed with FEMA and applied for SBA loans, but still have unmet needs from the September 2008 floods. LARRI focuses on restoring homes to a safe, sanitary and secure condition. Matthews & Parker

Two Recovery Specialists with LARRI are now available in the GNS office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to meet with Gary homeowners affected by the flood.

Jerome Flagg, Executive Director for Gary Neighborhood Services, who has been involved with LARRI since its inception, was eager to bring the flood relief organization to GNS.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to service citizens of Gary who have the greatest need as a result of the flood, in a location convenient to them,” Flagg said.

Director of LARRI, Jane Delligatti, said Gary Neighborhood Services is a familiar service center known as a place people can go for much-needed services.

“I can’t think of a finer place for us to be. It seems a natural pairing,” Delligatti said. “We are so pleased to be partnered with GNS and extremely grateful for their hospitality.”

Gary Neighborhood Services is located at 300 W. 21st Ave. Gary, Ind. LARRI Recovery Specialists are located in Room #4 in the GNS offices and can be contacted by calling (219) 883-0431 ext.18.
