The "Couples' Build on February 13, was a special service project of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps team (Oak 3) working with LARRI through February 26, 2010.  The event was a great success and we thank everyone who came out to be part of that special day.

AmeriCorps is part of a network of national service programs created to improve the environment, enhance education, increase public safety, and assist with disaster relief and other unmet human needs. NCCC members, 18-24, must complete 1700 hours of service during the 10-month program. LARRI is proud to partner with this outstanding group of young leaders.

September 2009 marked the one year anniversary of the devastating floods that affected over 17,000 homeowners in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.

On Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13 we came together again, as one community, to remember and heal.

On Saturday, after a wonderful pancake breakfast, prepared by the Munster Lion's Club at the Salvation Army, over 100 volunteers worked on flood damaged homes all over Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties.

The following day, over 250 clients, volunteers and staff gathered for a picnic at Gary's beautiful Marquette Park in Miller Beach. The afternoon included family games, food, a visit from three of the Lutheran Disaster Ministries "Comfort Dogs," a client testimonial, several moving songs by a community choir and an inspirational speech by CBS 2 Chicago's Harry Porterfield.
